Sensytec vs Giatec SmartRock

Compare SensyRoc II and SensyCast with standard Giatec SmartRock and SmartRock Long Range. Choose by the collection workflow, installation conditions, measured properties and full system cost.

Published by Sensytec. Reviewed . The Giatec products compared here are standard SmartRock and SmartRock Long Range. SmartRock Pro and separate laboratory instruments are outside this comparison. Vendor sources describe advertised capabilities; they are not independent performance tests. Confirm the exact model, installation and quote before purchasing.

Which Sensor Architecture Fits Your Pour?

Giatec offers both standard Bluetooth SmartRock and SmartRock Long Range with a compatible gateway. Sensytec offers Bluetooth SensyRoc II and gateway-connected SensyCast. Start with the collection workflow: a person reading near the pour, or automatic remote monitoring. Then compare installation, measured properties and the complete cost of the system.

Side-by-Side: Standard and Long Range Models

What the Published Range Figures Mean

For standard SmartRock, Giatec lists up to 40 ft (12 m) with recommended embedment and up to 100 ft (30 m) when the transmitter is exposed. These describe the sensor radio connection, not unlimited phone access from anywhere.

For SmartHub Long Range, Giatec specifies up to 1,000 ft (300 m) from SmartRock Long Range sensors embedded 2 in (5 cm). The hub relays data to the cloud over LTE or Wi-Fi. The Long Range hub requires external power; Giatec also describes a solar option on its Long Range product page. Confirm the regional model and compatible hub when ordering.

SensyCast's advertised one-mile range is a line-of-sight figure. It should not be treated as a tested advantage over a competitor's embedded range. For a practical comparison, use the planned concrete cover, reinforcement, obstructions, gateway height and network connection. The Giatec sensor FAQ also notes that obstructions affect range. Test both normal monitoring and recovery after loss of connectivity.

Choosing on Cost and Measurement Needs

Compare cost over your actual pours

Permanent embedment can suit jobs where retrieving hardware is impractical. Recovering a SensyRoc II body can reduce the amount of hardware replaced, provided the installation leaves it accessible and the crew retrieves it. The financial result depends on the quote, probe replacements, loss rate and labor. There is no verified price comparison or universal break-even point on this page.

Request the same scope from both vendors: sensor locations per pour, planned pours, probes, hubs, data service, software, calibration, training and support. Include the time to install, retrieve, maintain and collect readings. Confirm whether offsite staff can view live data with the package being quoted.

Verify how the strength estimate is used

The concrete maturity method estimates strength from temperature history and a relationship established for the mix. Use an agreed calibration and verification procedure before relying on readings for stripping or stressing. Sensytec's resistivity measurement is an additional material signal; it does not itself replace a compression test or establish project acceptance.

For precast plants, the buying decision may also include cylinder handling, inspections and release documentation. Review match cure versus maturity and the SensyHub QC workflow, then ask each supplier to demonstrate the records your plant needs. Existing crew training and a compatible supplier workflow are useful selection factors when demonstrated on your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is all SmartRock monitoring Bluetooth-only?

No. Standard SmartRock supports Bluetooth collection. SmartRock Long Range uses a compatible SmartHub Long Range for automatic remote monitoring. Confirm the sensor and hub combination in the quote.

How far does SmartRock Long Range communicate?

Giatec's SmartHub specifications state up to 1,000 ft (300 m) from SmartRock Long Range sensors embedded 2 in (5 cm). Range depends on installation and obstructions; verify it at the planned locations.

Can standard SmartRock be monitored remotely?

Yes, Giatec offers SmartHub for remote collection from compatible standard SmartRock sensors. A phone-only setup and a hub setup have different collection workflows. Confirm compatibility, power and cloud connectivity.

Is SmartRock cheaper than Sensytec?

This page does not establish a price winner. Compare written quotes over the same number of sensor locations and pours, including consumables, gateways, connectivity, software and labor. Reuse savings depend on recovering the hardware.

Does the SmartRock range figure prove which sensor is better?

No. Embedded range and open line-of-sight range describe different conditions. Compare coverage at your planned installation, along with data recovery, calibration, reports and total cost.
